My Approach
I appreciate the courage it takes to start therapy. Talking about personal feelings, thoughts, and experiences can be hard. So I take great care to create a space of safety and trust, encouraging an authentic therapeutic relationship to naturally develop. Listening carefully, I attune to the individual and navigate sessions at a pace that seems appropriate. This usually allows people to feel at ease opening up and sharing the emotional load they’ve been carrying. Trust, compassion, respect, and non-judgment are the cornerstones of my counseling approach.
As I get to know a person, I will tailor my counseling approach to their individual needs. I use techniques drawn from a number of evidence-based treatment orientations, including: Person-Centered, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Existentialism, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Knowing that past events and experiences can impact a person’s nervous system and present-day life, I use a trauma-informed lens to treat cases.

Working together involves collaborating to better understand and resolve challenges in a person’s life. With a sense of curiosity and compassion, we will process emotions, and uncover unhelpful behaviors or thinking patterns that are getting in the way. When we do, we determine what shifts can be made in order to achieve desired results. I listen closely, ask questions, and provide perspective. With this approach, I have witnessed people develop new insights, discover strengths, identify helpful strategies, and leverage them into effective and lasting change.
